Breathing tests can help identify if shortness of breath and coughing could be from asthma. Asthma is a chronic lung disease involving our airways or bronchial tubes. The bronchial tubes allow air to come in and out of the lungs. When these passages are blocked by inflammation or constriction breathing becomes labored and symptoms such as coughing and wheezing can occur, causing shortness of breath at times.

Symptoms can start as a child or as an adult. Many people that have asthma also have allergies. These allergies can trigger asthma attacks under certain conditions. In many cases, treating allergies can control asthma. Frequently, asthma can be managed through a combination of environmental control measures, medications and immunotherapy and/or immunomodutators such as Xolair and other biologicals.
