Shelby Stockton (00:00):
Welcome to the Texas ENT Audio Blog. I'm Shelby Stockton. We are ecstatic to introduce a new doctor to our team, and it's otolaryngologist, Dr. Jeffrey Bergeron. Dr. Bergeron and I talked about why he wanted to be an ENT doctor in his areas of expertise. He also informs us of some signs that may mean you need to go visit your local office. Dr. Bergeron is sure to be a remarkable addition to Texas ENT. Take a few minutes out of your day to get to know him better.
Dr. Bergeron, it's so nice to meet you.
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (00:34):
Yeah, it's great to meet you too. Thanks for having me.
Shelby Stockton (00:37):
Of course. I'm excited because you are about to be a new doctor at Texas ENT, and I want to make sure that I get to know you and our patients get to know you. So can I ask you a few questions?
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (00:47):
Absolutely.
Shelby Stockton (00:48):
So why did you want to be an ear, nose and throat doctor?
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (00:55):
Yeah, I became interested in ENT kind of as a medical student, number one. What I think is really cool about it is you see patients across the whole age spectrum. So you see brand new babies just after they're born to people that are in their 80s and 90s. So you just get to see a huge variety, which I always kind of enjoyed. And then you get to help people with profoundly impact their quality of life, like hearing, speech, swallowing, sinuses, all these things have a huge impact on patients' quality of life. So as an ENT doctor, if you can improve these things it makes a big difference in a patient's life. And then I really enjoy the variety of procedures that we get to do as well. So it's kind of just a broad specialty where we get to do a lot of things with a lot of different people.
Shelby Stockton (01:56):
So what are your areas of expertise?
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (02:00):
So things that I'm interested in are sinus surgery. So if you're having a lot of sinus infections or chronic sinus infections, I really enjoy doing surgery to help patients to improve those symptoms. I also specialize in thyroid surgery. So if you have benign growth or a cancerous growth on the thyroid gland, I really enjoy doing surgery to help with that. I also enjoy surgery to help patients who are struggling with sleep apnea. There's a lot of patients who can't tolerate CPAP, which is kind of the most common treatment for sleep apnea. So for patients that can't tolerate CPAP we look at a variety of surgical options that could potentially help with that. And I really practice kind of all the areas of ENT, but those are some of the areas that I specialize in.
Shelby Stockton (03:07):
What's something that patients can watch out for that may be an indicator that they should come in and see you?
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (03:14):
Yeah, so there's a variety of things. So I would say if you're having problems breathing through your nose, if you feel like you get a lot of sinus infections, if you're having trouble with your sleep at night and you've tried CPAP for sleep apnea and you really haven't seen the results that you wanted to. And really, like any problem related to the ear, nose, or throat, I'm happy to see.
Shelby Stockton (03:41):
What excites you about starting at Texas ENT?
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (03:45):
Yeah, I'm really excited to move to Houston and start my practice. Houston's an amazing city with an incredibly diverse population. So I'm just excited to serve the community of Houston and to help patients out with their problems, and I think that Texas ENT is a great place for that.
Shelby Stockton (04:07):
Well, we are definitely excited to have you. Welcome you to Texas ENT. Welcome you to Houston. Make sure you have a good AC, you're going to need it.
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (04:15):
Absolutely.
Shelby Stockton (04:16):
And we'll see you around.
Dr. Jeffery Bergeron (04:19):
All right. Sounds awesome.
