Assessments are all the rage right now. Whether it’s a COVID test, an online test, or just testing one’s patience, we seem to be in the exam era, and allergies are no different.

What is an allergy test?

An allergy test helps determine if your body has an allergic reaction to a known substance. It can be administered as a blood test, a skin test, or an elimination diet (when dealing with food allergies).

What are different types of allergens?

Allergens cause allergic reactions like itchy eyes, sneezing, blocked sinuses, rashes, etc. Inhaled allergens, such as pollen, are the most common. Many people also fall victim to ingested allergens, like types of food. Contact allergens happen when certain substances make contact with the skin, like poison ivy, and cause rashes and itching.

Should I be tested for allergies?

More than 50 million Americans are affected by allergies every year. Although only annoying at times, some allergies can be lethal. Asthma causes approximately 250,000 avoidable deaths each year. By getting an allergy test, patients can pinpoint their allergy triggers and be given medication to help any symptoms that could lead to more severe side effects. It is also essential to know one’s allergies to avoid any potential dangers.

Before allergy season gets into full swing, call your local Texas ENT and schedule an allergy test. It’s easy, and the information could help you avoid a lot of suffering or even a hospital visit. Tests aren’t fun, but the good news is, you don’t have to study for this one.
