Snoring Testing and Treatment Options

Our experts at Texas ENT Specialists can provide sleep tests to help determine the cause of your snoring. You may be snoring due to sleep apnea. We also provide CPAP (“continuous positive airway pressure”) machine prescriptions to help patients stop snoring by increasing the air pressure in the throat to stop the airway from collapsing.

What Is Snoring?

Snoring is a common condition that affects people of any age, although it typically gets worse the older you get. Snoring occurs when the muscles in the roof of your mouth, tongue, and throat begin to relax. When the tissues relax enough, they block part of your airway, leading to airflow becoming more forceful. This begins to increase the vibration of the tissues, which leads to snoring becoming louder.

Snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea, which can cause one to stop and start breathing while asleep. Our team at Texas ENT Specialists offers testing and treatment options for snoring.

  • Narrow airways
  • Nasal defects (including deviated septum or chronic congestion)
  • Family history of snoring

Men are also more likely to snore than women, although women can also snore.

Snoring FAQ's

Why should I seek treatment for snoring?

It’s important to have your snoring evaluated to understand the root cause. If your snoring is due to sleep apnea, you may require further treatment. Snoring treatment can also help you and your partner sleep better.

Can’t I just use over-the-counter treatments?

While over-the-counter treatments for snoring can provide some relief, they won’t be able to determine the cause of the snoring.

With 18 convenient locations across the greater Houston & San Antonio areas, we’re never far away.
