Hearing loss affects millions of people, but no two people have the same hearing loss experience. Each case is unique and requires a customized solution.
What to Expect During Your Hearing Aid Fitting
Programming: During the appointment, the audiologist will program the hearing aids based upon the results from your hearing test by using specific software designed by the hearing aid manufacturer. The software uses algorithms that identify your hearing needs and prescribe settings that are unique to your hearing loss. The programmed hearing aids are set to maximize your hearing potential in various listening situations.
Measure: Once the hearing aids are programmed, we then measure how well the hearing aids are performing using an objective testing process called Real Ear Measurement (REM). The REM test uses a thin tube that slides into your ear and past the end of the hearing aid. The REM’s tube is connected to equipment that measures loudness at different frequencies and is designed to ensure the correct amount of amplification at specific pitches is matched to the hearing loss you experience. In addition to the REM testing, we also listen to subjective input from your and your family.
Educate: We want you to have a great experience with your hearing aids. Many hearing aids have additional features as well as apps and accessories that may be important for your hearing health goals. We’ll guide you through the options that are available to you. Additionally, we will teach you everything you need to know about how to care for your aids. Proper care and maintenance of your hearing aids are essential for both new and previous hearing aid patients.
