What is a Nasal Obstruction?
Nasal obstruction occurs when airflow is reduced due to blockage in the nasal passages. The nasal valve, which includes the septum, turbinates, and lateral wall, plays a crucial role in directing air through the nose:
- Septum: The partition of bone and cartilage between the nostrils.
- Turbinates: Structures inside the nose that warm, filter, and direct inhaled air.
- Lateral Wall: The tissues on the outer sides of the nose that form its structure. When any parts become enlarged or inflamed, airflow through the nasal passages is restricted, leading to congestion, difficulty breathing, and snoring.
