Let’s Spring Clean!
We survived the 100 days of January, and February flew by like it was nothing. Now that March is here, it is safe to say that spring has sprung! That’s right, the seasonal appetizer before summer has started, and now we must prepare.
Step 1 – Spring Cleaning.
I know, I know… The word “cleaning” isn’t usually met with enthusiasm, but with organization gurus like Marie Kondo and the relaxing haven called The Container Store, a seasonal clean is not only satisfying, it can be fun.
So, where to begin? What are the spring cleaning essentials to welcome the warmer months? Here are some tips to get the ball rolling. Once you start, it will be difficult to stop.
Clean Room By Room
Don’t get overwhelmed. Concentrate on one room at a time. Skip the areas that see a lot of attention and concentrate on the rooms and spaces that stayed stagnant all winter long.
Clear the Clutter
One day I opened my office drawer and realized I had 6 staplers. I hate to be wasteful, and that’s why I hold on to things longer than I should (sound familiar?). If you don’t need it, someone else does. Donating is not wasteful.
Prep Your Outside Space
Outdoor areas are usually neglected during the colder months. Get out there and sweep the patio, clean the grill, and wipe down outdoor furniture. It’s time to enjoy nature again.
Don’t Forget Curtains and Bedding
Pulling down curtains for cleaning may seem like a daunting task, but the reward is worth it. Tapestries hold dust, so it’s important to give them a good wash every once in a while. If you have winter bedding, time to switch it out for the lighter stuff. Send your bedding to a professional cleaner for storage.
Get the Household Involved
Don’t go at it alone. Get everyone who enjoys the house in on the fun. Even kids can help with age-appropriate chores. When we clean our own space, we appreciate it more.
Not everyone spring cleans, and some years are easy to skip, but if you take the time this year, you’ll be happy you did. It’s not just about aesthetics either. Dust, dander, and pet hair settle into cracks and grooves. You want to clear out that space, so you can enjoy a clean spring before the sweaty summer.
