Immune Deficiency (Recurrent Infections)
When patients get recurrent infections they may have an immune problem. Immune problems are very serious and can lead to pneumonia, recurrent sinus infections, meningitis, and even sepsis and death. There are several parts to the immune system. The complement system, cellular and innate immune systems. Infections can be multifactorial and can involve one or more of these systems. Through a series of laboratory studies an immune problem may be found and a treatment plan can be started, depending on what the specific immune defect is .Treatment with subcutaneous gammaglobulins or IV gammaglobulins may be part of the treatment . Another part of the treatment is keeping vaccinations up to date.
