What You Need To Know About Prescription Drug Coverage
You are receiving this explanation because you have been prescribed a medication by your physician that may require preauthorization or may not be covered by your prescription drug plan. It is important to note that the medication prescribed by your physician is what he/she deems most appropriate to successfully treat your current condition.
Your prescription drug coverage is an agreement between you and your insurer. While Texas Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists cannot change the terms of this agreement, we want to provide you with important information regarding your rights and offer you a treatment alternative to help you receive appropriate prescription drug therapy.
Please note that your prescription drug plan cannot deny you access to medications prescribed by your physician.
They can:
- Deny payment coverage for the medication
- Require a higher copay for the medication
- Require preauthorization including the requirement of documentation of a trial of an over the counter medication or trial of an older class of medication prior to payment approval.
- To assist our patients to make decision regarding their prescription drug treatment we will provide our patients:
A prescription for the medication that your physician recommends and make available a prescription for an alternative over the counter medication or for an alternative older class of medication.
