State-of-the-Art Diagnostics

Hearing is a critical human sense. Hearing loss affects every aspect of life, and changes in hearing ability should be diagnosed immediately. At San Antonio ENT Specialists, we offer a multi-disciplinary approach. Our audiologists diagnose a range of hearing issues with state-of-the-art technologies. Our hearing testing processes include:

  • Audiometric Threshold Testing: This widely available hearing evaluation identifies the softest sound level you can detect at various frequencies. Both adults and children can undergo audiometric threshold testing as one step in identifying hearing issues.
  • Bone Conduction Testing: This test can discern the presence of blockages due to earwax or fluid in the outer or middle ear or to identify sensorineural hearing loss. This test measures sound conduction through bone.
  • Verbal Auditory Assessment: A test performed on adults and children measuring the ability to perceive and articulate spoken words, offering insights into speech comprehension.
  • Electrophysiological Hearing Assessment (EHA): This diagnostic tool evaluates neural pathways from the cochlea to the brainstem, which is essential for individuals unable to undergo standard audiometric tests or those with potential auditory nerve or pathway damage.
  • Cochlear Function Test (CFT): This procedure is designed to assess the health and responsiveness of the cochlea by measuring sound wave emissions, providing critical information about the inner ear's functioning.
  • Tympanometry: This test evaluates the mobility of the eardrum to aid in diagnosing conditions such as eardrum perforations, middle ear effusions, or obstructions in the ear canal.
  • Otoacoustic Emissions Test (OAE): This test evaluates inner ear functioning.
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR): The neural pathways between the inner ear and brain can be evaluated with this advanced test. It may be used to diagnose pediatric hearing loss or hearing loss associated with a traumatic brain injury.
