What is ClariFix?

The ClariFix device is a nasal probe that is inserted into the back of the nose, the source of sinusitis, in order to target a small, inflamed area with cryotherapy (cold therapy). Cryotherapy targeted in this area interrupts the signals to the nerves which cause your nose to swell and drip. This is how ClariFix uses cryotherapy to selectively freeze tissues to help relieve inflammation, pain, and other symptoms of sinusitis.

Am I a Candidate for ClariFix Treatments?

Patients who are experiencing chronic symptoms of rhinitis or sinusitis that don’t resolve with medication or other treatments are likely candidates for ClariFix treatments. These include the following:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Congestion
  • Itching
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Inflammation
  • Nasal and facial pain

What Happens During the ClariFix Procedure?

We will first give you a local anesthetic to ensure the nose is numbed and you feel no pain during the procedure. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, your doctor will guide an endoscope gently into your nose. The ClariFix probe will follow along the same path to the back of your nose, which is where the nerves are located which are sending the signals to your nose to cause it to run, itch and remain congested. During your treatment, your doctor will use the endoscope camera to see the area of inflammation and properly apply the cryotherapy to those nerves. This interrupts nerve signals causing the symptoms.

The ClariFix process takes just a few minutes per nostril. During your treatment, you will feel slight pressure, minimal discomfort, and a cooling sensation around the nose which sometimes extends to the molars.
