What is a Balloon Sinuplasty?

A Balloon Sinuplasty in The Woodlands involves using a specialized medical device, called a balloon catheter, to expand the nasal passages to resolve chronic sinusitis. Before FDA-approval for this device, surgical treatments were the traditional approach, but times have changed. This procedure does not involve the removal of bone or tissue, a long recovery time, or other drawbacks of surgical treatment. It is simple, fast, and effective. The treatment takes about an hour to complete and leads to long-lasting relief.

What is the Procedure?

To perform the procedure, the nasal cavities will be inspected with the help of an endoscope, a slim tool with a light at the end. Once the blocked area is identified, a balloon catheter is inserted in the breathing passage, and the small balloon inflated to expand it and allow natural drainage and improved breathing.

Once the area has been expanded, a saline solution is used to wash away any excess mucus or other material, the balloon deflated, and the catheter removed.
