Sinusitis is a condition that causes the sinuses to become inflamed and can lead to a buildup of mucus. It is a serious condition that can cause significant pain and discomfort. In some cases, medications and other treatments may be ineffective, leading to the need for surgery. Sinus surgery is a safe and effective way to treat persistent sinus infections.

What Are the Treatments for Sinusitis?

Sinusitis treatment in The Woodlands usually involves:

  • Antibiotics to clear the infection
  • Decongestants to reduce the swelling
  • In some cases, a steroid nasal spray may also be prescribed
  • If the condition is severe, a doctor may also recommend surgery to remove the blockage from the sinuses

How Does Sinus Surgery for Sinusitis Work?

The procedure involves enlarging the sinuses to allow for better drainage. This can help to reduce pain and pressure and improve breathing. In many cases, sinus surgery can provide long-term relief from symptoms. If you are considering sinus surgery, it is important to discuss the benefits with your doctor. The decision should be made based on your individual needs and health condition.

Is Sinus Surgery the Solution to My Chronic Sinusitis?

If you are considering sinus surgery, it is important to consult with an experienced ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist. The experienced ENTS at Texas ENT Specialists will be able to determine if surgery is the best option for you and will help to ensure that the procedure is performed safely and effectively.

Sinus surgery is an option for those that have tried other treatments such as antibiotics and corticosteroids with limited success. It can open the airways and allow for better airflow using tiny incisions. It can be an effective treatment for those seeking long-term relief from their sinus issues.

What Types of Sinus Surgery Are There?

There are two types of sinusitis surgery: functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and Caldwell-Luc operation.

  • FESS is the most common type of surgery for sinusitis. During this procedure, a small camera is inserted into the nose to allow the surgeon to see the sinuses. The surgeon then widens the openings of the sinuses to improve drainage. This type of surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you can go home the same day.
  • Caldwell-Luc operation is a more invasive type of surgery and is typically only used in cases where FESS is not effective. The surgeon makes an incision in the upper jaw to access the sinuses during this procedure. The surgeon then removes any blockages and enlarges the openings of the sinuses. This type of surgery requires a hospital stay of several days.

How Long Is the Recovery for Sinusitis?

Most people can return home on the day of their surgery and can return to work several days after their sinus surgery. Expect your sinuses to take roughly a week to heal and it may take a week or so before noticing any improvement in your symptoms.
