Are You In Need of an Audiologist?

An audiologist focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing and balance disorders in patients of all ages. If you experience any of the following, an appointment your audiologist at Texas ENT Specialists should be made right away:

  • Sudden hearing loss
  • Ongoing hearing problems getting worse
  • Persistent ringing in your ears (also called tinnitus)
  • Sudden or ongoing symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and other balance problems

If You’re Experiencing Hearing Loss, You’re Not Alone

Do you…

  • Frequently ask others to repeat themselves?
  • Find yourself constantly turning up the volume on the TV, radio, or stereo?
  • Have trouble following conversations in crowded rooms or in cars?
  • Have trouble understanding women or children, or feel as though people are mumbling?
  • Find yourself raising your voice to inappropriate volumes?

If you answered, “yes” to any of these questions, you may be experiencing hearing loss. Schedule a hearing evaluation with your audiologist to take control of your hearing health and take your first step toward finding the right treatments for your lifestyle.

Hearing Evaluation Tests

At Texas ENT Specialists, your evaluation and treatment will always be customized to meet your unique needs. Our audiologists usually perform at least some of the following tests during a hearing evaluation:

  • Pure Tone: Testing to measure the hearing levels in each of your ears.
  • Speech Discrimination: A test to evaluate how well you hear/understand spoken words.
  • Bone Conduction: A test measuring how well your inner ears respond to sound.
  • Otoscopy: checking in the ear canal for potential obstructions.
  • Tympanometry: testing to measure how well the eardrums move.

These tests provide your doctor with a baseline understanding of your hearing health and how well you are hearing. With that knowledge and through consultation with you, your audiologist can lead you toward the right hearing aids or other treatments for you.

What to Expect From a Hearing Test

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association recommends that adults 50 and over schedule hearing tests every three years. But hearing tests can absolutely be valuable at any age if you have experienced new changes in your ability to hear, ear pain, tinnitus or ringing in the ears, or other symptoms. Your audiologist is here to help with your hearing health at every stage of life.
